Chapter 42- Savusavu

Having stayed in the big island -Viti Levu- for 15 days, we decided to explore the second biggest island in Fiji -Vanua Levu -next.

There are several ways to get from Nandi to Suvasuva. We opted to fly on an 18 seater, very comfortable propeller plane operated by Fiji air. The one hour flight, with a female co-pilot, was smooth with gorgeous views to look at.

Approaching Suvasuva

A driver from the resort picked us up and we were all checked in and ready for lunch shortly thereafter. Our first accommodation in this expansive resort, was dark & inadequate so we were pleased to be moved to a nice private place at the edge of the water called the Light House.

There was not much to do in Savusavu so we opted to spend the days at the resort, walking, reading, visiting with guests from around the world AND YES …by far my favorite… low tiding and finding blue starfish, varieties of active hermit crabs and all kinds of unusual sea creatures, collect shells & continually offer our praise & gratitude.

Wished the photo would show the very bright blue color of these shy – most partly hidden under rocks- starfish.
Sweet young honeymooner friends took this candid photo of us!

If you love to eat, this is the place to do that. Our half board included a full buffet breakfast, what they called a snack but it was larger than a meal, and a three course dinner. We could only do two of the meals each dav.

Oh, I almost forgot to mention the vast Lilly ponds. I have never seen that many beautiful & healthy water Lillies in one place. In addition to Lilly ponds the grounds were more like a botanical garden. I took several hours walking around, taking photos of the flowers and trees.

Thousands of these Lillies in all colores were spread across the resort.

Our next destination is Taveuni, the third largest island in Fiji.

And I must say that in just 6 days the staff became like close family to us. It was hard to say goodbye to them.
